Who We Are

St James’s Church is an evangelical Anglican church based in Ryde, on the Isle of Wight, the largest island off the coast of England. We are separated from the mainland by the Solent, a narrow strip of sea famous for its yachting. Situated off the south coast, we enjoy some of the best weather in Britain!
Our ministry is based on the clear teaching of God’s Word and the application of biblical principles to daily living. We focus on being open to God through corporate worship, private prayer and daily reliance upon the power of the Holy Spirit.
As a Church of England proprietary chapel with an ordained clergyman, we enjoy an independence from the Anglican Church, yet remain committed to its protestant and evangelical practices and doctrines. We are proud to be partnered with other gospel centred churches on the Isle of Wight and across the Solent Region.

Our Staff

James Leggett

Minister

James moved to the Isle of Wight in 1997. He is married to Mary and they have 4 children, only one of which still lives at home. James studied at Oak Hill Theological College and spent time as a curate before moving to the Island.

Jono Hill

Administrator

Jono moved to the Isle of Wight in 2001. He is married to Sam and they have 3 children. Not resigned to a life of administration, Jono has previously worked in one of London's great tailors and now makes the most of his experiences as a school governor at his local school in East Cowes.
