St James's Church Ryde
Our Vision Statement

At St James's We Have:
1 Goal - to glorify God in all that we do.
2 God Given Tools - the Bible and Prayer.
3 Gospel Centred Tasks - proclaiming Christ, building each other up, sending out workers.

1

One Goal. We have one simple aim: to glorify God in all that we do (Romans 12:1). This happens as sinful men and women hear the gospel, turn to trust in the Lord Jesus and grow to become more like Him. We long that, in the time before Jesus returns, God will use the life and witness of our church family to bring praise to his name.

2

Two God Given Tools. We believe that by the power of the Holy Spirit all Christians are made alive to God, and that by his Holy Spirit he: 1. draws us to Christ by His Word, the Bible, 2. drives us to depend on Him by us praying for His will and purposes to be carried out in His sovereign time. Therefore, as we seek to be led by the Holy Spirit, the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16) and prayer (Philippians 4:6) must be central to all we do. So we unashamedly commit ourselves to a Bible ministry that is faithful to Scripture and applied to today's world and in prayer we depend on Him to work in us and through us as we seek to follow Christ.

3

Three Gospel Centred Tasks. We seek to proclaim Christ (1 Corinthians 1:23), build each other up (Hebrews 10:19-25), and send out Christian workers into Ryde and the world (Matthew 9:38).

  • Proclaiming Christ: We aim to tell as many people as possible the momentous news that those who trust in Jesus' death can be rescued from an eternity in hell and instead enjoy friendship with God now and forever. Through both our word and actions we aim to reach those who live in our community, as well as our friends, families and children, neighbours and colleagues. We want our church to be 'outsider-friendly' and are prepared for costly change if necessary in pursuit of that goal.

  • Building each other up: We long to grow together as disciples of Christ, following Jesus' example and seeking to honour Him in every aspect of our lives: at home or at work, in our families, and among friends. As the body of Christ at St. Jamesí, we are encouraged, spurred on and built up as we each use our gifts to serve one another in worship and obedience to God.

  • Sending out workers: We seek to obey Jesus' command to make disciples of all nations and are committed to the task of making Jesus known in our local area, the UK, and throughout the world. That involves us in prayer, giving, appointing gospel workers, and supporting those sent out as 'St. Jamesís missionaries'.
